Texas museum has 'dairy' good exhibits
June 10, 2011 Marshall County Tribune/Karen Hall- Sulphur Springs, Texas, is the home of a unique attraction, the Southwest Dairy Museum You can't miss it as you drive down Houston Street -huge statues of cows, a Jersey and a Holstein, are standing at the roadside. The building itself is a typical dairy-farm style barn, complete with silo. Program exposes area fourth-graders to the world of agriculture
May 11, 2011 Alamogordo Daily News/Bev Eckman-Onyskow- The second annual Kids and Kows and More program will have exposed around 700 Otero County fourth-graders to six different aspects of agriculture by the end of today. Mobile Dairy Classroom Visits Deer Creek
April 29, 2011 The Edmond Sun/Patty Miller-Squeals of delight, surprised expressions on faces, clapping laughing and a few fingers pressed tightly against noses greeted Lexi as she visited Deer Creek Elementary School Thursday. Five-year-old Lexi is one of 13 cows that are used by the Southwest Dairy Farmers out of Sulphur Springs, Texas, to teach Oklahoma students about the dairy industry. Click here to read full story

 

Higher vitamin D intake needed to reduce cancer risk
February 22, 2011- University of California/ Kim Edwards- Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha have reported that markedly higher intake of vitamin D is needed to reach blood levels that can prevent or markedly cut the incidence of breast cancer and several other major diseases than had been originally thought. New Federal Dietary Guidelines Call for Americans to Increase Their Consumption of Low-Fat and Fat-Free Dairy Foods
January 31, 2011, CHICAGOPRNewswire/ -- The new 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) encourages 3 daily servings of low-fat or fat-free milk and milk products for adults and children nine years and older. For children ages 4-8, the recommendation was increased from 2 to 2.5 servings, and for children ages 2-3, the recommendation remains 2 servings. Most Americans fail to meet these recommendations, even though they have been previously established by the DGA and supported by independent health organizations. Click here to read full story
